1. INFORMATION ABOUT THE ACTION TO BE TAKEN

Whole Body Scanning with 1-131 is an examination in thyroid cancer patients in which the whole body is imaged with cameras using a low dose of radioactive material.

2. EXPECTED BENEFIT FROM THE PROCEDURE

It is used to visualise recurrence or metastases in thyroid cancer patients.

3. PROBLEMS THAT MAY BE MET IF THE PROCEDURE IS NOT APPLIED Your diagnosis and treatment may be delayed.

4. ALTERNATIVES OF THE PROCEDURE

There is no alternative to the examination.

5. RISKS AND COMPLICATIONS OF THE PROCEDURE

There are no complications of the examination.

6. IMPORTANCE AND CHARACTERISTICS OF THE MEDICINES TO BE USED

Since the radiation caused by the radioactive material used in 1-131 Whole Body scanning is negligible, no side effects are expected. Since the 1-131 dose given is low (5 mCi), it has no therapeutic efficacy.

7. ISSUES THAT THE PATIENT SHOULD PAY ATTENTION TO BEFORE AND AFTER THE PROCEDURE AND PROBLEMS THAT MAY BE EXPERIENCED IF NOT PAID ATTENTION TO

7.1. Nuclear medicine tests use low doses of radioactive material. Please warn your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

7.2. Since it is absolutely necessary not to move during imaging, small children or infant patients must be accompanied by two people. If you think that your child cannot stay still, please warn your nuclear type doctor before the appointment day.

7.3. Do not make another appointment on the same day.

7.4. Please bring your previously taken films (direct radiography, CT, MRI, MRI, USG, etc.), blood and other tests with you on the day of your appointment in order to make your examination in the Nuclear Medicine Department healthier.

7.5. Fasting is required for 4-6 hours before the application. However, you can drink water.

7.6. Avoidance of certain foods, beverages and medicines containing iodine or affecting thyroid metabolism for the following periods before the test will increase the sensitivity of the test

Especially in the last week, seafood (fish, mussels, lobster) and processed foods such as salami and sausage should be avoided.

7.7. In nursing mothers, breastfeeding should be completely discontinued after the procedure.

7.8. There are some rules that you should follow in order to protect those around you from the low doses of radiation used for this test. You should keep a distance of at least 2 metres from adults, especially children under 10 years of age and pregnant women for three days. We recommend that you do not use public transport for three days.

7.9. You should start your thyroid medication, which you have stopped before the test, the day after the day you receive radioactive iodine at the dose recommended by your physician.

8. ESTIMATED DURATION OF THE PROCEDURE

8.1. A small amount of water and radioactive material will be administered orally by the nuclear medicine physician. After the radioactive substance is administered, whole body imaging will be performed on 2 separate days (24 and 72 hours later) as described by your physician. Additional images may be taken if deemed necessary.

8.2. Your results will be given within the specified time after the test is completed.
